Before reading, you might want to check out: In-text or footnote?
In this module, we'll be exploring the various options that are built into CiteRight. These have been created to be flexible to ensure your style isn't compromised, but enhanced. There are various areas this article will focus on, the first being your citation preferences.
Table of Contents
Customizing your citation preferences
The preferences section in CiteRight is divided into tabs. You can get there by clicking on the Preferences button. By default, the system is set to the below preferences.
There are three categories of preferences: Style, Formats, and Source Links (hyperlinks). In this section, we'll explain the function of each of these menu options.
This allows you to choose how you want your references displayed, either as a footnote or an in-text citation.
When you choose the footnote option, a footnote marker is placed in the document. A footnate citation is automatically generated once you cite your reference, as shown below.
This option inputs the reference cited in the body of your document as shown below.

Source Links (Hyperlinks)

The Book of Authorities preferences
For any document with CiteRight references, CiteRight can create a book of authorities. These are the customizations available:
- Name and appearance of BOA tab markers - When a BOA is generated, an indication of the BOA will appear next to all your references across your document as shown below.
- The order of the authorities in the BOA - can be sorted alphabetically, by year of reporter or by order of appearance.
